INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis family is honoring the late Dolly Parton this Halloween with a display of skeletons at its north-side home.

Each skeleton represents a different era of Parton’s decadeslong career.

She died on Aug. 25 at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee, following a brief battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Katie Matsoukas, a Parton aficionado, said her family has paid tribute to musicians on its front lawn before. This year, she said, Parton felt like a natural choice.

“I just, I really, I think she’s a great person to kind of aspire to be like,” Matsoukas said. “When she passed away, I saw somebody wrote something on social media to the effect of, imagine living this life where you have all these accolades, this amazing career in music, and when you pass away, all anybody wants to talk about is how good of a person you were, which I just think is kind of in a nutshell how I feel about her and how a lot of people feel. So we’re excited to have this be kind of a tribute to her this year.”

Halloween is on Saturday. The house is at 5338 N. Washington Blvd., southeast of the intersection of North Pennsylvania and East 54th streets, in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood.
